i have several jw family members.

i have been shunned many years now.

i was not baptized, but i was indoctrinated as a child.

To me, both statements are saying the same thing. If Adam's sin is what condemned humanity, then Jesus's sacrifice is what saved it. By balancing the scales to negate the cost of Adam's sin, he has given humanity a path for the expiation of their own.

Hi Tonus, There is a vast difference between the two. Do you suppose that we are not accountable for the lives we live today because Adam's sin is covered? Of course not, right?

The way to truly appreciate what Jesus did for us is very personal. He died for our sins. YOUR SINS too! If you face your own sins and are convicted by the Holy Spirit and feel guilt and repent and confess them and receive the Lord Jesus' suffering and death for YOUR forgiveness.. that is the beginning of a relationship with Him! You are washed in His blood! You can know that. He will not cast you out. As you go through life, He will help you! Ask him to show you your sins because He will- and He will help you to overcome them. It's a lifestyle with Him as your shepherd. Pray often! He will stick closer than a brother to you. It's not about a birthday cake!

I havent figured out how to quote anyone on here yet. So this is for everyone who replied.

I did some digging! As much as it pains my heart to read these.. it proves that my sister was correct in her understanding of WT teachings. I dont know if two things are tought simulaneously or not. You would think that something this important would be well understood! Anyway,. here are the quotes I found.

One from 1973 and one from 1995. Apparently, the below is still taught as she was not a Jw in 95. She a stickler who keeps up with "new light". Romans 6:7 IS NOT ABOUT OUR PHYSICAL DEATH! Wow. just wow. Read these quotes--

What of those, then, who will be resurrected during Jesus' thousand year reign? Must these too, come into the city of refuge and remain there until the "death of the high priest"? No. For these have paid the penalty for thier sinfulness by their own death. (Rom.6:7) They have been aquitted of sin by going down to the common grave of mankind. On coming forth from death, they are now standing on the road that leads, not i not the antitypical city of refuge, but into life verlasting. - The Watchtower, 5/15/73, page 312

and

Must those resurrected during Jesus' thousand year reign enter the antitypical city of refuge and remain there until the death of the high priest? No, because by dying they paid for their sinfulness. (Romans 6:7, Heb 9:27) Neverthless, the high priest will help bring them to perfection. If they successfully pass the final test after the Millenium, God will also declare them righteous with a guarantee of eternal life on earth.- The Watchtower 11/15/95, page 19

That is INSANE! Does WT ever read in CONTEXT? Read chapter 6 in Romans! Ro 6:7 is speaking of a figurative death- DEATH to SIN. Oh the twisting of cherry picked verses......!!

When I have more time I will lay out the chapter, so we can easily see why WT is very wrong here.

I agree with what you've said. I just have a question though. If the org has gotten new light saying Jesus died for our sins and not just Adam's, wouldn't that have been a big deal? Did I misunderstand you?

Here we have someone going door to door teaching this rubbish to others. It is a self atonement! I heard from one person who told me it is a mangling of Romans 6 where Paul is speaking about new birth and how believers die with Christ.

This Jw is in very good standing and is not a stupid person and puts a lot of time and energy into WT publications and service.

You suppose it's a bad question and I do not. No need to be rude. calm down and read.

Did you expect Jesus while on earth to pray to Himself? Of course he prayed to His Father. But what did he say to the apostles?

Ask me anything in my name and I will do it. John 14:14

Does that help? Perhaps they obeyed the what the Lord told them.

Who is answering the prayer? Could it be the one who said he will answer it? Do you have an interlinnear? Look it up. Ask ME anything in my name and I WILL do it.

First a simple question- Did Jesus know their hearts?

Here are a few verses that tell us the answer.

Mark 2:8 Immediately Jesus, aware in His spirit that they were reasoning that way within themselves, *said to them, “Why are you reasoning about these things in your hearts?

Luke 6:8 But He knew what they were thinking, and He said to the man with the withered hand, “Get up and come forward!” And he got up and came forward.

John 2:24-25 But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men, and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man.

There are others, but I think that's enough. Hopefully, we agree that's a yes, Jesus knows man's heart.

Next question. Who chose the apostles? It's not a hard one so Hopefully we agree it was the Lord Jesus.

That takes me to Acts 1:21-26

Therefore it is necessary that of the men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us— 22 beginning with the baptism of John until the day that He was taken up from us—one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection.” 23 So they put forward two men, Joseph called Barsabbas (who was also called Justus), and Matthias. 24 And they prayed and said, “You, Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which one of these two You have chosen 25 to occupy this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.” 26 And they drew lots for them, and the lot fell to Matthias; and he was added to the eleven apostles.

Who did the apostles pray to there? The obvious answer is the Lord (Jesus.)

So, why does the NWT insert Jehovah there? I will let you answer that in your heart.

Pastafarianism Vs JWs

there is a new religion called pastafarianism.. official doctrine is all about a flying spaghetti monster.

obviously nobody actually believes any of it in their heart but they stay physically in the religious group.. i wonder if jws will become like this and people choosing to stay in when they don’t believe it..

I have several JW family members. I have been shunned many years now. I was not baptized, but I was indoctrinated as a child. I'm apparently seen as an opposer because I defended my decision against baptism by using WT publications that were old light. Hence, the shunning, although they insist they do not "shun" and only the Amish do that.

I suppose due to an allowance for "family business' I was in contact with a jw relative not long ago. A mutual JW family member died. This Jw relative announce to me that this deceased person's sins were forgiven by his death. I was not sure if I heard correctly, and innocently asked, What? You mean by Jesus' death?

That brought laughter and this reply; "No of course not,.Jesus didnt die for our sins- he died for Adam's sins"

This person has been a JW for 28 years. So I will assume that is the current belief of a Jw. Any thoughts?

I have to say that I never once was taught by Jdubs that Jesus died for my sins. I honestly wasnt sure what Jesus' death was for concerning me. Ijust thought that if I did everything they said ( no holidays etc) I could maybe be forgiven? I just knew something was missing.

Having read through the bible after my JW influence years ended, it is clear as day that Jesus died for OUR sins- and that it is crucial to believe Him and obey his command to love one another. We love God because he first loved us!

So, I have to say that I can not understand how any religion can call themselves Christian and not know that much. it is repeated in the bible so many times! Jesus paid for our sins with His blood.

Here's my Q. I went on Jw org site the other day and I see that they are saying Jesus died for our sins on there. They dont say much else........ which isnt surprising. But why wouldnt my 28 yr Jw relative agree?

Is this doublespeak by the WT?

They are linking to sites who do. You i figure it out. The Watchtower OWNS the Bible Students who is linking to sites who sell their old publications. Why would they allow that? They may not own that website but they OWN them. Does that make sense? Do you think the WT is just being nice? The Bible students believe the WT is apostate... the WT believes that the Bible Students are apostate. Are Jws allowed to mix with apostates?

Yet one owns the other............... ok enuf said.

Dig around on the site. One I saw was a link to Dawn Bible Students. Another was Divine Plan. I'm not interested enough to click on more links. Anyone measuring pyramids and oooops then changing the measurements to fit an agenda is clearly not of God.

In 1907, the Watchtower deliberately altered a supposed Pyramid measurement by 41 inches to match its changed chronology.

Here is an excerpt from Russell’s Studies in the Scriptures: Thy Kingdom Come, Series III, p. 342. The boldface type shows the changes between the measurements reported in the 1897 and 1907 editions of the book:

1897 edition:

“Then measuring down the Entrance Passage from that point, to find the distance to the entrance of the ‘Pit,’ representing the great trouble and destruction with which this age is to close, when evil will be overthrown from power, we find it to be 3416 inches, symbolizing 3416 years from the above date, B.C. 1542. This calculation shows A.D. 1874 as marking the beginning of the period of trouble; for 1542 years B.C. plus 1874 years A.D. equals 3416. Thus the Pyramid witnesses that the close of 1874 was the chronological beginning of the time of trouble…” (Russell, Studies in the Scriptures: Thy Kingdom Come, Series III, p. 342, 1897 edition)

1907 edition:

That pyramid grew. No explanation at the time. They just changed the numbers and kept printing the book!

Finally, in 1979---------- they came up with this excuse. But is this true? Did history change? haha. Oh nut he meant well. That excuse doesnt work for false prophets. These people are blatant liars.

The March 1, 1979 Watchtower (p. 24) made this defense of its prophetic changes: “The increasing light on God’s Word as well as the facts of history have repeatedly required that adjustments of one kind or another be made down to the very present time. But let us never forget that the motives of this ‘slave’ were always pure, unselfish; at all times it has been well-meaning.”
